It may not come as a surprise that the physical condition of a work environment impacts strongly on an employee’s level of job satisfaction. In fact, it makes sense as it’s estimated that employees spend a third of each day in their working environment. With so much time spent at the office, then, it’s essential that the workspace is set up to promote health and wellbeing, which — in turn — will foster higher motivation and creativity.
Here are six ways we have prioritised wellness for the businesses renting office space at our Myo New Street Square office.
WELL Platinum certified
We are proud to announce that our New Street Square office is certified WELL Platinum. There are a total of 35 WELL Platinum certified schemes in the UK, 11 of which are Landsec’s – including Myo Liverpool Street, and now New Street Square. The WELL certification is a rating system that assesses the characteristics of a building that have an impact on a person’s health and well-being, based on ten principles, including:
- Lighting
- Water quality
- Air quality.
This pre-certification demonstrates that we take the health and well-being of our occupants incredibly seriously and that we want to foster an environment that positively impacts everyone.
We spoke to dMFK Architects, who worked with us on Myo New Street Square, and they had the following to say about wellness at our offices:
“Our design for Myo New Street Square sought to create a welcoming office environment that makes people want to come to work. The carefully crafted refurbishment has reimagined the late 2000s block as a well being-focused, amenity-rich workplace, providing a series of versatile, contemporary event spaces and shared eating areas designed to bring people together, in addition to a diverse choice of flexible working environments.”

Wellbeing spaces
Workspaces can be designed to support the health and well-being of employees — even right down to the finest details and soft furnishings. At Myo, we offer a range of tranquil, private communal areas that allow for confidential conversations to take place. Additionally, there are sociable eating areas to support networking and socialisation.
Having workspaces that support mental and physical health is incredibly important. Did you know that unwanted noise can release the stress hormone, cortisol? That’s why we have upgraded acoustics to reduce noise stress and support concentration. We have also provided high-quality electric lighting to support good eye health.
Biophilic design
Biophilic design focuses on aspects of the natural world that support human health and productivity. There is a strong connection between nature and health & well-being. In fact, many health professionals will recommend spending time in nature, maybe a walk in the park or some time spent in the garden, to boost our serotonin — the feel-good hormone.
With this in mind, we thought it was apt to integrate our workspaces with plants and to include a landscaped top-floor terrace for mindful relaxation. Not only does the workspace look aesthetically pleasing, it provides a tranquil environment for productive working.
Natural light & ventilation
Natural light has been proven to increase levels of happiness and well-being. At our New Street Square office, there is a generous amount of natural light within our shared office space, with 70% of workstations offering 5m of glazing. In addition to this, the offices are well-ventilated, ensuring any harmful pollutants are removed and good air quality is circulated throughout the building.

End-of-trip facilities
Staying active is a great way to improve your health and well-being, and is proven to increase serotonin and dopamine levels.
If you enjoy cycling or riding a scooter to work, or you’re thinking about cycling to work in the future, you will very likely value having facilities in place to keep your possessions safe and to get yourself work-ready. Our end-of-trip facilities include secure on-site cycling storage for your bicycle and changing facilities that include a clean, hot shower for freshening up and a complimentary towel service.
Enriching events programme
An important part of wellness is socialising and spending time with like-minded individuals, which is why we have curated an enriching programme of events to improve wellbeing and encourage networking.
These include wellness classes, thought-leadership talks, and social events. Our events also bring light to and assist with local, relevant issues and topics in our community, for example, supporting and recognising initiatives that raise awareness around inclusivity and equality.
